Art Show Preview: SCRAP x CVAD

First Fridays in Denton are nights for engaging in the arts, and this weekend SCRAP will partner with UNT College of Visual Arts and Design students to present soft sculptures in the RE:Vision Gallery. Celebrate crafting among the artists with music and food at the opening reception from 6 to 8pm on November 4th.

SCRAP’s series of shows are in tune with their mission to prevent materials from going to waste. The sculptures by Design II students are 75% reused, repurposed, and upcycled. Faculty members chose the best for display and they will be available for sale throughout the month of November. Proceeds are shared between students and SCRAP.

Attendees can expect over 30 pieces to view with live music performed outside the front door. These 3-dimensional pieces of artwork can add personality to your home in ways that paintings on the wall cannot. This kind of works take artists through an unconventional approach of creation that requires a bit of cleverness.

Aspiring crafters will also have a chance try a make-and-take felt pin craft with food and drinks being provided. Check out the Facebook event page for additional updates. If you believe in the spirit of reusing, then also check out SCRAP’s website for hours you can donate your own materials. Below you can check out examples of soft sculptures from previous events.
