Erin Ferguson Pop-Up Art Show Preview
Most of us are already on board with 940’s Kitchen and Cocktails’ scrumptious libations, and now they plan on adding some eye candy to the mix. It's been a few months since their last pop-up art show, but 940's is hosting an art show featuring Erin Ferguson’s abstract, colorful, and mesmerizing artwork under her moniker J 6 2 ART.
Ferguson’s multi-disciplinary work rages on in its own radioactive way with intense colors and textures. Her images almost seem to slide off the canvas as you stare, and it has an inherent movement within each splatter, stroke, and scribble.
Ferguson’s artistic purpose is to create an outlet to release stress and tension. “The evolution of my art, if that's what we're calling it, has been fueled by my spiritual needs. I paint for the health benefits,” she says. Ferguson draws inspiration from Jackson Pollock and Basquiat, which is reflected in the masterful use of color in her work.
While she works in many different mediums, the work being shown will include an array of spray paint, oils, and acrylics. Ferguson's Instagram shows snippets of her creative process, in all its messy glory. Check out @erin_eliza_beth and #j62art on Instagram for some great shots of her in-process (and covered in paint).
If you can’t make it down to see Ferguson's colorful works, word on the street is 940's will be hosting more pop-up art shows throughout the fall. Denton can get hyped to see work from the artists of Dark Age Tattoo in October. General Manager Matt Mullins hopes to bring more artists into the light. “We want Denton County artists to have a place they can showcase their creativity and provide some exposure while not taking advantage of them and charging them to do so or take commissions for anything they happen to sell”, Mullins explains.
940’s full menu will be available, along with some $5 specialty cocktails from Dulce Vida Tequila. Come hang out with your fellow Dentonites and the featured artist at 6pm on Tuesday, August 23rd. Cocktails + art with art lovers.. Who could ask for more?
