Gallery Report: June 2, 2017

The addition of "covfefe" into Urban Dictionary prefaced Donald Trump's decision to pull the United States out of the Paris Climate Agreement. The nitwit-in-chief says in his speech, "I was elected by the citizens of Pittsburgh, not the voters of Paris." Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto was quick and incisive with a Twitter response, stating, "Fact: Hillary Clinton received 80% of the vote in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh stands with the world & will follow Paris Agreement." Mayor Peduto added, "It's now up to cities to lead. As the Mayor of Pittsburgh, I can assure you that we will follow the guidelines of the Paris Agreement for our people, our economy & future." Denton could strive to be environmentally conscious, but the state of Texas overrides the will of citizens who wish to have green standards.

Anyway, here's where you can check out local art

The Bearded Monk
122 E. McKinney St.
Wails Worety has taken over the main art wall of bearded monk with a mix of surreal paintings and prints that includes a psychedelic skateboard. His work will be on the wall for the next month. The paintings are an expression of the artist's struggles to get back into the practice of making art after a lengthy hiatus.

Patterson-Appleton Arts Center
400 E. Hickory St.
Composite of the Soul ft. Justin Archer, Erik Beruvides, and Dan Black
Three local artists teamed up to present a three-dimensional installation utilizing wood sculptures, large-scale murals, and audio/video elements. Composite of the Soft provokes thought on building toward a better future without forgetting the past. The Dentonite recently stopped by to capture a photo essay on the exhibit. Time is short. The exhibit is only available until June 3 for a free viewing.
