Square Waves to Host Improvisational Music Video Collaboration Project
To-the-point (“An Improvisational Music Ensemble Film Project”) is exactly what it sounds like: a spontaneous jam-session-slash-music-video open to all Denton singers, musicians, and filmmakers.
The event is hosted by Square Waves, a local video production group known for offering free services to musicians on the rise. The organization has shot videos for many well-loved Denton artists, including but not limited to Dome Dwellers, Bret Crow, and Lydia Low.
“The idea for the square jam kinda spawned between Jonathan Jake Steinberg and I,” founder of Square Waves Jordan LaChance says. “He has such a warm and inviting spirit. I thought, How cool would it be to just get everyone involved for a shoot with him as the leader?”
In an effort to give musicians of all skill levels a chance to contribute, the set list for the event was determined through an open poll. Currently, the jam is set to include hit songs such as “Valerie” by Amy Winehouse, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by the Rolling Stones, and “Baby, One More Time” by Britney Spears. For even greater accessibility, the chords of these songs have been posted to the event’s Facebook page. However, participants are encouraged to play whatever tunes they like in addition to these.
Each participating musician is guaranteed to be featured in a short solo clip. In addition, each filmmaker will have the opportunity to submit their footage for the final cut of the video. All participants will be tagged and credited for their contribution.
“I look forward to seeing how well it turns out,” LaChance says. “Honestly have no idea if we can all sync up [sound-wise]. Either way it will be a blast.”
As the event is an open jam, contributors are free to come and go as they please. Spectators are also welcome.
The event will take place on Sunday, March 26th from 3 to 6 p.m. in front of the Denton Courthouse.
What are you waiting for? Come out and make your mark on the ever-changing patchwork that is the Denton music scene.
