DAM Awards 2019: Best Film Exhibition

With Denton’s track record of always have rain during a festival, you can always expect to find warm dry solace within the theater, here are your 2019 DAM Nominees for Best Film Exhibition.

Denton Black Film Festival

The recently held Denton Black Film Festival screened 64 films, hosted workshops and panels, in addition to music and comedy acts that took stages across Denton. DBFF provides a platform for stories about Black lives, Black culture, and Black experiences to be shared, to raise awareness and to be validated.

Festival de Cine Latino Americano

Finishing out its second year in 2018, the FDCLA recognizes film in its different variations that feature Latinx talent or are filmed in Spanish. An organization that brings together members of the Latin America film community across North Texas, their goal is “to showcase & support existing and emerging creative Latino filmmakers from across the world.”

Stray Fest

Celebrating North Texas film, art and music, Stray Fest made its debut this past August hosting the festivities at Alamo Drafthouse with a free festival bringing live music, art exhibits, and film screenings all under one roof.

Thin Line Film Festival

The inaugural Thin Line took place in 2007 and the fest is still going strong, showcasing documentaries from all over the world, the most breathtaking photography, and beginning in 2014 local and regional music as well. They’ve have been striving to keep the fest free with fundraising and sponsorship, taking over Denton for 5 days with film, photo and music exhibitions.

UNT Short Film Club

A UNT-based film community offers workshops throughout the week as well as short-film screenings. The organization’s infamous 48-hour Film Race takes place each year, and their film exhibitions throughout the year are the perfect opportunity to take in the talented works of UNT students.
