Andy's to Host Brunch Event Benefitting Keep Denton Warm

Bring a winter wear item to Andy’s this Sunday and gain entry to Waffles, Wassail & Warmth, an event benefitting Keep Denton Warm. The event, with a rather self-explanatory title, will also feature a set from Boxcar Bandits.

Keep Denton Warm is a seasonal campaign focused on providing winter clothing to the rising homeless community in Denton. The campaign has been going on for three years and is an extension of Friends with Benefits, a non-profit organization dedicated to hosting a bulk of events towards the organization/charity they team up with that year.

Andy’s General Manager Blake McDaniel said they wanted to start hosting brunch but also saw the opportunity to help out.

“We can throw an event – and, do some good as well,” McDaniel said.

McDaniel said this will be the kick off of the bar's brunch events and each one will be different. McDaniel said Andy’s will announce the next organization soon.

McDaniel said they are working with Glitterbomb to put a burlesque brunch but as of right now they are focused on having the Keep Denton Warm event go smoothly and hope to move forward from there.

Mindy Arendt Co-Founder and President of Keep Denton Warm said the creation of the campaign came about three years ago, when Friends with Benefits met with a representative from Giving HOPE who explained the growing need for such a campaign. The group strives to keep those without homes alive through winter in the freezing temperatures. Waffles, Wassail & Warmth will mark the end of the Keep Denton Warm season.

“Come and eat waffles, drink wassail, bring a donation, have a good time and help our community out,” Arendt said.

The event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you don’t have winter clothing to donate, a cash donation is accepted and will go to Our Daily Bread.
