Denton Businesses Closed for 'Day Without Immigrants'
People across the United States are participating in the "Day Without Immigrants" movement today, including a couple of restaurants in Denton. According to a report in Texas Monthly, there are more than 1,000,000 undocumented people living between Dallas & Houston. Dallas ranks as the 4th highest metro-area with the most "unauthorized immigrants."
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has threatened cities and universities throughout the state who do not fully cooperate with federal immigration authorities but has not passed any legislature that would ban sanctuary cities. CNN reported today that President Trump announced that his new immigration executive order will be "tailored to the federal court decision that paused his travel ban." The new order should be produced within the next few weeks.
There is a running list of Dallas restaurants closing and reports of employee walk-outs over at the Dallas Observer by their Food Editor, Beth Rankin. So far, nine different eateries are closed or serving limited menus in solidarity of the 'Day Without Immigrants' movement.
In Denton, Tortilleria La Sabrosita, located at 201 S. Dallas Drive, closed its doors today in honor of 'Day Without Immigrants.' Owners left signs on both doors saying "Cerrado 16 de Feb Un Dia Sin Immigrants" (Closed February 16 for Day Without Immigrants).

Also closed today is Chestnut Tree located in downtown Denton at 107 W. Hickory.
Popeyes on Loop 288 has been closed for some time; their closure had nothing to do with today's movement.
