Hurrah! The weekend has arrived! If you were able to indulge in a short week, it's basically like you're on a mini-vacation. If you had to rough it out and work the holiday, now’s your time to let loose — and here's how to go about it.

Play some games to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity, sip on electric Kool-Aid at Backyard On Bell's two-day psych fest, twirl your best gal or guy to the twangy sounds of “The Train," and make a meme, a monster, or both. Here's your weekend, Denton.

Thursday, July 6

Habitat Night at Game Changers
Game Changers, 6 p.m.

Join Game Changers Sports and Arcade Grill as they host Habitat Night in support of Habitat for Humanity of Denton County, a nonprofit dedicated to building homes, communities, and hope. Game Changers will donate a portion of the day’s sales to the organization, so all you have to do to help is play some arcade games, enjoy some grub, and guzzle a few drinks. Easy peasy.

Raised Right Men
Harvest House, 8 p.m.

Two-step your Thursday evening away with Raised Right Men as they transform the expansive Harvest House patio into a jen-yoo-ine Texas honkey tonk. Dust off your boots, crack open a cold one, and hoot and holler to your heart's content. It's FREE, y'all! 21+.

Music from Some Nice Guys 
Backyard On Bell, 9 p.m.

Enjoy a night of music from a few delightful Denton dudes at Backyard On Bell. The show features performances by funk-party-powerhouse Puddin Taine, jazz/soul/funk/hip hop vibe-master Kind Beats, and pop-rock singer-songwriter Jo Higginbotham. We’re picking up good vibrations. This all-ages show is FREE!

Summer Series: First Fridays @ The (Ghost) Note
The (Ghost) Note, 4 p.m.

Looking to polish your paradiddles and fine tune your flams? Join The (Ghost) Note for their First Fridays summer series. You're invited to hang out in the Drum Shed upstairs and play with the house band while enjoying a few complimentary beers provided by The Bearded Monk. Pro-tip: Don't leave without taking advantage of a free five-minute drum lesson. This event is free of charge and open to all ages and skill levels.

Acid Koolaid Festival
Backyard On Bell, 7 p.m.

Take a trip and expand your mind at the Acid Koolaid Festival, a two-day interactive experience featuring far-out artists, musicians, and vendors from all over Texas and BEYOND, MAN.

Supersonic Lips EP Release
Andy’s Bar, 9 p.m.

Dallas indie/alt-rock band Supersonic Lips takes the stage at Andy's to release their new EP, Blinded Pleasures. Recent winners of the Dallas Observer Music Award for Best Latin Band (a label they find misleading), Supersonic Lips are joined by The Monkberries, The Single Issues, Kyoto Lo-Fi, and Tony Ferraro. There’s a $7 cover for those 18–20 and a $5 cover for 21 and up. 

Saturday, July 8

Wayne “The Train” Hancock
Dan’s Silver Leaf, 4:30 p.m.

It's gonna be a rowdy Saturday at Dan’s Silver Leaf, thanks to the King of Juke Joint Swing, Wayne “The Train” Hancock. Roadhouse rockabilly, beer-soaked blues, and real-deal C&W sounds are The Train's specialties, and he always puts on a helluva show.

Tickets are $12 in advance via www.danssilverleaf.com and $15 at the door. This’ll be an early one: the show starts at 4:30 p.m.

A Fundraiser for Denton Together
Midway Craft House, 9 p.m.

Head to Midway Craft House for a fundraiser benefiting Denton Together, a community organization that aims to support the growth and success of the local music scene. From the folks that brought you Band Together Denton, this fundraising event will feature live performances by locals Richard Haskins, Soggy, and Strong Work.

This show is free, but cash or card donations for future Denton Together events and initiatives are greatly appreciated.

Monster of the Month: Plush-Making Workshop
SCRAP Denton, 12:30 p.m.

Feeling crafty? Join SCRAP Denton’s Monster of the Month Club. A four-part series, each plush-making workshop will focus on creating a different Texas cryptid, monster, or critter using reused and upcycled materials. Students will choose the fabric and embellishments of their liking, and will be able to either use a pre-made pattern or design their own.

Sundown Cinema Series
Andy's Bar, 7 p.m. 

Join Andy's Bar for the Sundown Cinema Series. Each Sunday throughout the summer will feature a beloved film, starting with this week's feature: The Big Lebowski. You're invited to dress the part (there's no official contest, but don't let that stop you from rocking a robe and sunglasses) or come in your street clothes. Either way, the White Russians are waiting and the Dude abides. The movie kicks off around 7 p.m. Free! (No nihilists please.)

MEMEapalooza: An Internet and Ritchy Flo-Based Experience
Andy’s Bar, 7 p.m.

Andy's sure is packing the weekend-event heat! The Denton Comedy Festival (DCF) invites you to be recognized for doing as little as possible at MEMEapalooza: An Internet and Ritchy Flo-Based Experience.

Simply create, print out, and B.Y.O.M. (bring your own meme) to Andy’s Bar for a live art-based contest. Memes will be displayed and judged, with the winner taking home a meme-tastic prize. Entry ends at 9 p.m and then the laughs continue as the DCF Showcase Showdown. No cover.

The Denton Comedy Festival Showcase Showdown
Andy’s Bar, 9 p.m.

Following MEMEapalooza, seven independent comics throw down Thunderdome-style for the Denton Comedy Festival Showcase Showdown. A stand-up comedy showcase, each comic will be competing for a $500 prize and a top-billed spot at the 2017 Denton Comedy Festival (November 2-5).
