Weekend Update: May 19 - 22
SUN’S OUT, GUNS OUT, DENTON! After a fairly wet week, we’re gonna get some great weather this week, so there’s no excuse to miss out on some awesome things going on around town. Keep your eyes peeled for all the FREE shit going on—there’s even a show at Rubber Gloves that’s a dollar cover (and a free show on Friday night). Get out there, celebrate school being out, and tip your bartenders!

Funk at the Monk!

The “Funk” refers to the elevated palette required for sour beers. The Bearded Monk will have special tappings tonight, plus they have a special package for $25: a black-light t-shirt, engraved growler, event poster from Otter Illustration, and a sour pour. Not a sours fan? That’s alright! Come out and enjoy one of the many other beers they have to offer.
Pale Screening

This screening event is hosted by Circus Wheel Productions, led by Jersey native Brett Bentman. $5 admission—half the proceeds go toward the UNT Department of Media Arts.
Talent Show Finals

This is not your typical talent show, y’all. These folks are crazy talented, so you won’t want to miss out. Mable’s is serving up food, games, prizes—the whole she-bang. $10 gets you in.
Intro to Aerial Arts
Twisted Bodies Pilates, 11 am
For all our little Denton monkeys out there, we’ve got an event at the Twisted Bodies studio you’ll be into. It’s like a beginner’s Cirque d’Soleil right here in town. You’ll get a taste of aerial hammock, silks and lyra hoop. It’s $10–$25 depending on whether you’re a member or not, but it’ll be a solid workout and, honestly, sounds super fun, right?
The Photo Hut Presents: Dink fest!
The Photo Hut House, 2 pm
We love a good house party and it looks like The Photo Hut has some promising things coming up. On tonight’s list, you’ll see performances by Blake Vaughan, Bereah and Monkberries. There will be food and obvs beers, but be a good guest and bring a little something of your own, too.
Sunday, May 22
Hiroku the Goblin Screening
The Bearded Monk, 7:30 pm
Oh, the HORROR! Come and check out the bone-chilling monster film Hiroku the Goblin, by Shinya Tsukamoto. We won’t spoil it for you, but it’s pretty effing crazy. The Bearded Monk will be showing it and afterward the Denton Cine-Club will host a discussion/drying-your-pants-from-pissing-yourself-scared time.
Spiderwed Salon
Denton Historical Park (317 W Mulberry), 2 pm
This VERY special wedding event is brought to you by Denton’s art collective, Spiderweb Salon. Mind you, this is no traditional wedding. In fact, it’s not a wedding at all—it’s a faux fest! Sit in the shade and watch a variety of performances, plenty of surprises, and then tromp on over to Dan’s for the reception after-party. This whole thing is free, but bring some donations to help out local artists.
