Downtown Denton Makes Room for New Art Gallery

Denton’s art community will have more space to shine after the AccessBank Texas Access Art Alley gallery ribbon cutting ceremony Friday at 4 p.m.

The permanent art gallery installment will be located inside the Discover Denton Welcome Center on the square and will focus on featuring local artists. The artists featured will change quarterly.

Local artist Kimberley Dietrich will be the first to display her work in the gallery and will also be attending the ceremony to present and sell her art.

“It will be a lot of fun with a live painter, jazz band, cocktails, ribbon cutting, and, of course, art for sale,” Dietrich said.

Dietrich works with a myriad of art mediums such as acrylics, mixed media, watercolor, and pyrography.

Though the gallery is limited to two-dimensional forms of art due to size, artists of different mediums are encouraged to express their various art forms in the gallery through mediums such as paintings.

The gallery is put together by the collaborative effort among the Greater Denton Arts Council, Discover Denton, and AccessBank Texas to encourage local artists to engage their work more closely with the community.

Discover Denton Vice President Kim Phillips said this partnership is reflective of a business and non-profit organization coming together to support the community and its many talented residents.

“Ultimately, I think what’s important about that collaboration is that it demonstrates commitment to the arts and the fact that we realize and embrace that art is our identity,” Phillips said. “We are an arts community, and businesses like AccessBank stepping up to do this really speaks to that.”

The free event will begin at 3:30 p.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. Local artists who are interested in displaying work in the gallery can contact GDAC for more information.
