Preview: Chris Gethard Live Podcast Taping

Once a week, one anonymous stranger and one comedian have a 1-hour conversation about anything. No names. No hanging up. This is the premise of the podcast Beautiful Anonymous, hosted by Chris Gethard and being live-taped Friday in the UNT Lyceum.

The podcast began about a year-and-a-half ago. Since its airing, it has been deemed innovative and was featured on This American Life

Gethard has had a successful career. From his show The Chris Gethard Show (currently airing on TruTv) to parts in shows like The Office, Gethard has worked alongside many modern comedy heroes.

On Gethard’s most recent episode of Beautiful Anonymous, he jokes about the show being called an innovative idea in 2017 when all he is doing is taking phone calls from people. He does, however, say it is refreshing in his busy life to simply talk to a person.

On Gethard’s first episode of Beautiful Anonymous, he goes on a rant about how cool Denton is without ever having been there. He calls it an art hub, notes its DIY scene, names some local bands, and calls it “pure” compared to the out-blown Austin. In his newest episode while plugging the show for Friday, he calls it a “full-circle moment.”

Phone calls on the show may be heavy, funny, or inspiring. The beauty is in the surprise. The taping begins at 8:00 p.m. It is free for students, $15 for alumni, and $25 for the public. Tickets are available through UNT Union Tickets. Come by and listen to some “beautiful stories from anonymous people.”
