It’s easy for any person to post on Facebook about how they are unhappy about a local issue, or tweet about a local politician who they don’t agree with. Anyone can do that. Instead of hiding behind your computers, phones, and other fancy-schmancy technology, why don’t you go out there and make your voice heard?

Local elections are upon us, and there’s a lot at stake this year. While we are not here to push any agendas or specific political opinions on you, we cannot encourage you strongly enough to get out there and vote. Do your research and take five minutes out of your day to see through your civic duty and vote.

Throughout the last couple months, Denton has been at each other's throats. As our unopposed running Mayor Chris Watts said in Monday night's candidate forum, “there is nothing wrong with spirited debate, that's what makes for good ideas.” However, the levels to which things have been elevated - online especially - are shocking and somewhat disturbing.

There is plenty of information available at your fingertips and now is the time to catch up if you’ve been behind. No one’s judging you for not knowing. We are judging you for not doing anything about not knowing. The good thing is you’ve got time.

Early voting began Monday, April 25, 2016 and ends on Friday, April 29, 2016, and you can vote from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Early voting continues for two more days on Monday, May 2 and Tuesday, May 3 from 7:00 am - 7:00 pm.

Early voting takes places at the Denton City Hall located at 215 E. McKinney Street. Don’t forget to bring a photo ID.

Election day is May 7. You can vote from 7 am - 7 pm at one of the locations listed on this PDF via the Vote Denton website.

BONUS FOR EARLY VOTERS: We’ve teamed up with Oak Street Draft House to let you vote & drink! However you vote, save your early voting sticker and present it at Oak Street Draft House on Monday, May 2nd between 2 - 9 pm for a special Early Voting special - any beer for $3!

Given there is so much information on this modern aged internet thing, we've combined all the "essential" links for you, in addition to the candidates name as searched in the Denton Record-Chronicle, for much more information. In addition to the links with candidate information below, The League of Women Voters of Denton created a more in-depth guide to into some of the candidates on the ballot.
