Weekend Update: 12.7 - 12.10.17

Brrrrr! It’s cold out here!

A cold front swept through Denton Monday night, bringing us crisp, cold air and overcast skies. It finally feels like December now that the warm spell last weekend has come and gone! Celebrate the chilly weather by heading out on the town with friends and family. 
There’s tons of fun yuletide events going on this weekend to get you in the holiday spirit. East Side Social Club is hosting their last Backyard Market of 2017, the Denton Community Theatre debuts their production A Christmas Story this weekend, and there’s going to be a holiday choral concert at Murchison Performing Arts Center.

Dan’s is hosting a kick-ass show on Thursday featuring THIN SKIN, Hen and The Cocks, and Devils in the Belfry, and Backyard on Bell is hosting Bass Wars, a DTX drum n bass event. If you’re looking to warm up a little bit this weekend, Glitterbomb is hosting a sexy pajama party.

Thursday 12/7

Dan’s has got you set up with a kick-ass show to start off your weekend!

Denton noise/punk/fever dream band THIN SKIN, ballsy rock group Hen and the Cocks, and blues/rock fusion band Devils in the Belfry will all rock Dan’s stage this Thursday evening. $5 gets you into this surefire energetic, badass show. Rock on, Dentonites.

Anyone down for a sexy pillow fight?

Glitterbomb, Denton’s favorite team of queerlesque+burlesque performers is having a sleepover, and you’re invited! The theme for this Thursday night’s event is “Pajama Party”, and every Glitterbomb performer is going to be rocking a routine that’s bedtime-specific. As always, the fabulous Milo Cox will be hosting this 18+ event.

II Charlie’s is hosting a Star Wars trivia night that’s sure to be out of this world. Cash prizes will be available for top winners, and there’s going to be $2.50 wells and drafts as well as $4 for 2 tacos! Gather up your friends and test your Star Wars knowledge before the U.S. premiere of The Last Jedi on December 15th. Drink and be merry, you will!

UNT Sounds of the Holidays

Gather your loved ones ‘round and head over to University of North Texas’ annual Sounds of the Holidays concert. This choral concert, directed by coordinator/conductor Allen Hightower, will feature classic holiday carols that’ll make you want to hum along to. This yuletide concert will be taking place in the Winspear Performance Hall inside the Murchison Performing Arts Center.  May your spirits be bright!

Denton Community Theatre Presents: A Christmas Story

“I want an official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle!”
The Denton Community Theatre troupe is debuting their pick for their holiday show, A Christmas Carol! This production is based off the 1983 box office hit A Christmas Story. The film follows little Ralphie as he goes on a journey to find a real, genuine Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. If you can’t make it out to opening night on Friday, there’s still plenty of dates to catch the production: December 9, 15, and 16 will have 7:30 p.m. shows, and December 10 will have a 2 p.m. show.


Dtxdnb Entertainment Presents: Bass Wars

“In a galaxy, far, far away…. BASS WARS!”

Dtxdnb is hosting Bass Wars, a show featuring several drum n bass electronic talents from all over the Dallas/Fort Worth/Denton area. DJ Jump kicks off the event at 8:00 p.m., and is followed by Poininia, J-Trip, Lump, and DJ Titan. This show is all ages!

Brookshire’s in Denton is giving back!

The grocery store is teaming up with Matt Portz State Farm to sponsor a food and toy drive benefitting Out Daily Bread and Denton County Toy Store. Swing by Denton’s Brookshire’s grocery store and drop off non-perishable food and unwrapped toys during a free moment you have this Saturday. 'Tis the season to be generous!

Backyard Market: Holiday Edition

It’s the last Backyard Market of 2017; you won’t want to miss it!

East Side is hosting their final Backyard Market this Sunday, and it’s going to be filled with holiday goodies and gifts. Come peruse local vendors’ items and finish up your last minute Christmas shopping while also supporting the Denton community. Vendors like Being ReMade, Voice of Ink, Wild Wood Shed, Katie Mont Art, and many more will be out showcasing handmade goods up for grabs. As always, Eastside’s patio is pet and family friendly.
