Weekend Update: February 26, 2016
It’s the last weekend in February and there is so much to do! Whether you’re at the Vagina Monologues on Friday or at any one of the numerous live music events throughout the weekend, we hope you’re out and about and having fun.

Friday February 26
A Cohering Mass
UNT Union Gallery, 5:00 p.m.
A solo exhibit from new media artist Matt McGowin, A Cohering Mass will include the following works: Texas Tickler (a monoprint), Artiface (a mixed media installation), and HDX (a video performance). The exhibition will be on view through March 13, 2016 and opening reception will be tonight from 5-7 p.m., with an artist talk on February 29th at 1:00 p.m.
The 2016 Vagina Monologues
UNT Union, 6:30 p.m.
Running both Friday & Saturday nights, The Vagina Monologues returns to the University of North Texas for its 16th annual production. Held in the Lyceum, located inside the student union, there will be vendors set up before the performance for the Vagina Fair. be sure to check back on Monday for our special coverage of tonight's events. This year, the production will be benefiting Mosaic Family Services and The Family Place.
Fuck School Friday 3.0
Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios, 9:00 p.m.
Ohh, ladies - you get in free before 10:00 p.m. - that is actually pretty cool, can we keep doing that? Huge lineup on the bill tonight: Pudge, -Topic, Ben Waid, D-Willz, Muenster, Dirty Chin, Elijah Heaps & Nikolai Rya, KoolBRZ, Come Up Kingz, DJ Ju$trill, and AntLive. Basically if you want live hip hop, come to Gloves tonight.
Kaela Sinclair
Dan’s Silverleaf, 9:00 p.m.
The lovely and talented Kaela Sinclair will be headlining Dan’s this evening. Opening for her will be Leoncarlo and Relick.
Saturday February 27
Comedy Night
Drunken Donkey, 7:00 p.m.
There are things going on outside of the University and downtown areas, you know. Two shows tonight at the Drunken Donkey, folks: the clean and the dirty. The Speed Limit show starts at 8:00 p.m., followed by the 10:00 p.m. Unsafe at Any Speed show. There will be 8 stand up comedians and $2.50 Imperial cans.
Wharbaby Entertainment Presents: Kites and Boomerangs, Abacaba, Vodeo, Mother Tongues
Andy’s Bar, 8:30 p.m.
Who wants a night of dreamy psych rock? If you’re looking for some funky but mellow music, be sure to pop in Andy’s. Ps, you’re going to dance. Kites and Boomerangs and Vodeo are both bands hailing from DFW, while Abacaba and Mother Tongues are from the mother-land of Denton, TX USA.
Shmu, Dome Dwellers, Fun Button, Orcanaut, Armzilla
Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios, 9:00 p.m.
This is a full bill and there will be live music up until last call. Well worth a $5/7 cover, Shmu is coming in from Austin to share their groovy experimental rock with us. Local bands Dome Dwellers, Fun Button, Orcanuat, and Armzilla (ps, who?) will be filling in the rest of the lineup, with Armzilla (again, who?) taking up the 1:30 a.m. slot.
Sunday February 28
UNT Opera & Concert Orchestra: The Mother of Us All
Murchison Performing Arts Center, 3:00 p.m.
The Mother of Us All is an extremely emotional, 20th century opera that accounts for the life of Susan B. Anthony, her fight for women’s suffrage, and the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Virgil Thomson and writer Gertrude Stein collaborated on this opera, and is the second they’ve worked on together.
The Local Ticket 35 Denton Preview
Harvest House, 7:00 p.m.
35 Denton and The Local Ticket to bring you a free festival preview show! The Local Ticket host, and beloved on-air personality, DJ Mark will be broadcasting live from Denton. Son of Stan, The Birds of Night, Daniel Markham, and tomkat will be playing. By the way… this is a FREE SHOW.
