Thursday, May 11
Jo Higginbotham EP Release Party
BackYard On Bell, 7 PM
Start your weekend off a little early and head to BackYard On Bell for a night of bluesy-folk/rock with Jo Higginbotham. This will be an official release of Higginbotham’s EP, Second Thoughts. To help him celebrate this release, Betty Cruisers, Noise Brigade, Caleb Coonrod, and Tori Sloan will perform. Live music + delicious cocktails + great grub? Sounds like a stellar way to end a Thursday. Party starts at 7 PM.
The Moon Tower, 7 PM
Join The Moon Tower as they host Healthcore Fest—a house venue festival benefiting the Denton Community Health Clinic, a nonprofit that provides healthcare services to those in need. Showcasing their talents and showing their support will be The Wild Frontiers, Sea Fire, MNKR, and more! It’s FREE admission, but donations for the clinic are encouraged. Homelessness In A Day: A Snapshot of Homelessness in Denton County
UNT on the Square, 5:30 PM
The Denton County Homelessness Coalition presents Homelessness In A Day: A Snapshot of Homelessness in Denton County. If you’re curious as to who is experiencing homelessness in our community, why they are in this situation, and what are their experiences and their needs, this event can help answer those questions. Learn about people experiencing homelessness in Denton, the organizations working to end it, and how you can get involved. This educational and community-building event is free and open to the public.
BackYard On Bell, 6 PM
Join 7Feathers—a nonprofit that helps support and foster the growth of music, art, family, and nature in North Texas—at BackYard On Bell for a night of live music to get you ready for the Mayday fest. This show is early, so bring the family and enjoy food and drinks as well as performances by Sergio Y Compadres, Calling for Eden, and more! There’s a $5 cover charge, with funds benefiting 7Feathers. Bonus: Flower crowns will be for sale so you can celebrate Mayday in style. Festivities start around 6 PM.
Wesley Jensen, Horse Thief, Us Presidents
Dan’s Silverleaf, 8 PM
Find yourself getting all the feels with all the indie rock at Dan’s Silverleaf. Denton’s own Wesley Jensen joins The Penny Arcade to deliver a night of indie rock that’ll have you shakin’ and shimmyin’ (and maybe even swayin’). Joining the bill is the dreamy Americana five-piece Horse Thief from Oklahoma and Denton indie rock band Us Presidents. Tickets are $10 and are available via www.prekindle.com. Music starts around 9 PM. 21+.
Taps & Caps, 8 PM
Join Taps & Caps for a night of laughs and lagers as they host The Roast of Joe Coffee. The roast of Denton comedian Joe Coffee will feature performances by Taylor Higginbotham, Mehdi Brailey, Dan Danzy, and more! This make-you-laugh event is completely FREE, but donations for Language of Laugh for a Cause are strongly encouraged. LOL for a Cause is a nonprofit organization that enriches local students’ writing, reading, and collaborative skills.
Saturday, May 13
Juice Lab, 1 PM
Join 7Feathers as they present the Juice Lab South Elm Street Block Party Series. First up: Mayday. This family-friendly fest will feature live music and art, skateboarding, comedy, magic, and much more! Tickets are $5 with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Denton Animal Support Foundation. Least of These: Wolves EP Release Show
Dan’s Silverleaf, 7:30 PM
Join Denton indie/post-hardcore band Least of These for their EP Release Show at Dan’s Silverleaf. Helping them celebrate the release of their EP, Wolves, are Dallas indie bands Little Image and Caterpillars, and Denton indie-rock group Biographies. Tickets are $10 for those 18–20 and $8 for those 21+. Don’t miss this stellar showcase! Music starts around 7:30 PM.
Sturdy Fingers, Marathons & Unicorns, MAH KEE OH
Midway Craft House, 9 PM
Lend your ears to and set your sights on three talented Denton bands this Saturday night. Taking over Midway Craft House will be Denton rock band Marathons & Unicorns, featuring Eric Nichelson of Midlake and his two sons, Owen and Tate. Joining this high-energy bill is indie-rock band MAH KEE OH and Sturdy Fingers. Come grab a cold brew and listen to some rad tunes. This all-ages event is FREE! Music starts at 9 PM.
Live Music at BackYard On Bell
BackYard On Bell, 9 PM
Set yourself up with a nice Saturday evening at BackYard On Bell. Enjoy the perfect patio weather (while it lasts), delicious homemade pizza or food truck food, and live performances by Big Red Ants, Super Hero//Super Villain, Kamikaze Pilots Manual, and Evan Moore. It’s free, y’all! Music starts around 8:30 PM.
Sunday, May 14
Wine Squared, 11:30 AM
Celebrate the one you call Mom at Wine Squared for a Mother’s Day Jazz Lunch. This buffet will provide delicious soups, salads, sandwiches, and desserts. Your ticket includes the buffet, a glass of wine, and gratuity. With seating times of 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, and 1:30 PM, you can choose what works for you. Denton Music Workshop Student Performance
Harvest House, 2 PM
Join the Denton Music Workshop for their student performances showcase at Harvest House. If you’re unfamiliar with the Denton Music Workshop, it’s a complete music studio that offers lessons of all instruments, recording and audio production, and a rehearsal space for musicians. Come check out the sweet sounds performed by some of Lil’ d’s best music students. It’s free for all! Performances start at 2 PM.
