Thursday, May 18
Give Back Thursday with 7Feathers
Game Changers, 3 PM
Join 7Feathers—a local nonprofit with the mission of serving the community through art and music—for a night of games, food, and drinks. This family-friendly event will raise funds for an Instrument Petting Zoo (interest piqued…) and youth music programs. Simply come into Game Changers between 3 PM and 2 AM, and know that what you spend will go toward making a difference. Cocktails and games for a good cause? Sign us up!
Live Music at BackYard On Bell
BackYard On Bell, 8 PM
BackYard On Bell (BYOB) hosts another night of live music featuring the talents of local and touring musicians. Set to showcase is Dallas folk-rock trio Solpier, along with Mr. Grudge (the new electro-soul side project from Matthew and The Arrogant Sea’s Matthew Gray). Joining this noteworthy bill: indie-rock foursome Imaginary Tricks from New York, Denton alternative rock band Cashless Generation and Dallas solo artist Silas Nello. As always, BYOB will have plenty of tasty food and delicious drinks to satisfy you. This all-ages show is free, y'all.

Denton’s Planned Parenthood Benefit Show
BackYard On Bell, 3 PM
Denton Stands With Planned Parenthood is proud to present a Planned Parenthood Benefit Show at BackYard On Bell. The goal of this event is to raise awareness of the vital services Planned Parenthood provides and the necessary funding needed to do so. Some of Denton’s finest musicians will perform to show their support for this worthy institution, including Baptist Generals, Claire Morales, Kim Nall & The Fringe, Matthew and The Arrogant Sea, Mercury Rev (acoustic), Robert Gomez, and more. (#Resisting never sounded so good!) General admission is $20, which includes access to the silent art and vinyl auctions. VIP tables may still be available (package includes bottles of bubbly, pizzas, and more!)—see event page for further details. Tickets are available via www.prekindle.com. This will be one for the books, Denton. Let’s rally for a good cause.
Clothing Drive ft. Tighty Whities
Oak Street Drafthouse, 6 PM
Join Oak Street Drafthouse for the release of Cedar Creek Brewery’s session white IPA, Tighty Whities. Enjoy this release as well as the weather on the Drafthouse patio. Bonus: Donations (socks, underwear, and more) for Denton County Friends of the Family will be collected. (Dare we say, donate tighty whities to drink Tighty Whities?) Dan’s Silverleaf, 8 PM
Expand your musical senses with a night of psychedelia at Dan’s Silverleaf. Denton cosmic babes Pearl Earl bring their rainbow fuzz power to the stage, serenading us with their psych-pop sound. Joining the bill: Helen Kelter Skelter (super psychedelic rock from Norman, Oklahoma) and Vodeo (delicious synth-pop from Fort Worth). This party is only $5, y’all. Let’s dance. 21+.
Taps & Caps, 9 PM
It's the return of Mindypalooza! Join Mindy Ardent, Miss Dentonite of the Year, for her birthday celebration at Lone Star Taps & Caps this Friday. Helping her celebrate another year (and her recent engagement) are some of Denton’s finest hip-hop artists. Taking over the stage will be AV the Great, Elijah Heaps + Nikolai Rya, KoolBRZ, and more! Tickets are $3 for those 18–20 and $1 for those 21+. Sounds like a rad party. See you there, Denton.
Saturday, May 20
Stoke, 8 AM
Join Stoke for Data Rescue Denton. This educational event is an opportunity for programmers, scientists, archivists, activists, and volunteers to identity, back-up, and help preserve publicly accessible federal data resources in the public interest—in the event they’re removed from view and use. If you're interested in learning more, you can sign-up for this day of discussion via a link on the event page. Lunch will be provided, so make sure to register. B.Y.O.D. (bring your own device), as there will be plenty of outlets and excellent wifi. If you can't make it, the first half of the event will be streamed live via Facebook. This event starts bright and early at 8 AM.
Killer’s Tacos, 6 PM
Slay Saturday by joining Killer’s Tacos for Killer Fest. Brought to you by No Hope For Alderaan Productions, this fest will feature two stages, nine bands, and a lot of tacos. You can catch performances by Ancient Monks, A Dangerous Affair, Without Sacrifice, and more for only $5! For the complete lineup and set times, see the event page. Festing (and feasting!) begin at 6 PM. All ages.
Funk at The Monk 2: Electric Boogaloo
The Bearded Monk, 6 PM
Join The Bearded Monk for the second annual Funk at The Monk, a celebration of the funky power of sours. To honor these tart treats, there will be several limited keg tappings, a raffle drawing every hour for rad prizes (all proceeds from the raffle will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Denton County), limited-edition pint glasses from Nice Dudes Servicing Craft, and live funk music. Plus, Otter Illustration will be out selling artwork. A full beer list is available via the event page. This celebratory affair starts at 6 PM. Let the funk begin!
Zemog Otrebor, Claire Morales, Matthew Gray
Andy’s Bar, 8 PM
Join Andy’s Bar for an intimate evening featuring some of Denton’s finest (and a former) musicians. Showcasing their talents (and perhaps strutting their stuff) on the Andy’s stage will be local folk-singer sweetheart Claire Morales and indie-rock weirdo Matthew Gray. West coast resident and former Dentonite Robert Gomez joins this dreamy bill with his latest project, Zemog Otrebor. This is a party you won’t want to miss. Come get cozy.
Sunday, May 21
II Charlie’s Bar & Grill, 2 PM
Join II Charlie’s Bar & Grill for their 10th annual Salsa Smackdown. Contestants will make two salsas—one traditional and one “wildcard”. Sampling is free, so come grub and be the judge of the best salsas with the greatest presentations. Happy Hour prices will be available all day, including $3 Bloody Marys, mimosas, and more! (We were sold on the bounty of salsas, but those HH prices are enticing, too!) This Salsa Smackdown starts at 2 PM. Free.
Dan’s Silverleaf, 4 PM
Head to Dan’s Silverleaf for an early evening of Songs, Suds, and Support. In partnership with Russell Hickory Concert Productions and Four Corners Brewery, Dan’s proudly presents this event benefiting The Salvation Army of Denton and Serve Denton, as they work to address homelessness in Denton. According to the event page, the Platinum Tables have sold out but Gold Table tickets are still available. Not looking for a table? General admission is $15. Come show your support for these local nonprofit organizations with songs and suds! Event kicks off at 4 PM.
