Summer may be winding down, but Denton hasn't lost any steam. Spend your last summer adventures amidst your fellow Dentonites soaking up the wealth of community events Little d has to offer. Interested in giving back to the community by simply playing games and dining? Check out Game Changers' Give Back night. Fan of cosplay and books on it? Grab a signed copy of Cosplay Unmasked: Behind the Costume at The Bearded Monk. Does Texas BBQ, cold brews, and live music sound like your kind of evening? Stop by the second annual BBQ, Beats & Brews. Or maybe you're more into SCRAP Denton's Weaving and Wine. Either way, Denton has a plethora of events to fulfill your weekend wants and needs. Delve in!

Game Changers Gives Back to SwitchLife

Game Changers Sports and Arcade Grill, 11 a.m.

Each week, Game Changers Sports and Arcade Grill gives back to the community by donating 10 percent of a single day’s sales to a local nonprofit organization. This week, they’re giving back to SwitchLife, a nonprofit that provides empowerment and opportunity for at-risk youth through skateboarding lessons and workshops. Want to give back? Simply show up at any point throughout the day, eat, drink, and play a few arcade games. Plus, there will be a raffle you can enter to score sweet swag from Denton Skate Supply; tickets for the raffle are $5. Playing games for a good cause? Sounds like a tough way to start the weekend...

Body English Summer Get Down

Andy’s Bar, 9 p.m.

Summer’s end is rearing its ugly head so party hard while you still can, and do so at Andy’s Bar. Neo/electro-soul project Body English will be playing their first show at Andy’s. Joining the bill to help celebrate this occasion are jazz/soul/hip hop beat-maker Kind Beats and electro-pop artist Ronnie Heart. It's only five bucks to join this Summer Get Down. Party starts at 9 p.m. 21+.

Paint Nite: Riders on the Storm

Game Changers Sports and Arcade Grill, 7 p.m.

Explore your artistic side and join Game Changers Sports and Arcade Grill as they host Paint Nite: Riders on the Storm. Paint Nite is a unique way to gather with like-minded folks and create art over cocktails at a local restaurant or bar. Not much of a Monet or a Picasso? A local artist will guide you step-by-step through the painting process. All materials are provided and no experience is necessary. Tickets are available via www.paintnite.com. Cosplay Book Signing

The Bearded Monk, 8 p.m.

Are you interested in cosplay? Do you like giving back to the community? Head to The Bearded Monk for a book signing of Cosplay Unmasked: Behind the Costume. This book-signing event will feature some of the book’s artists and creators, and is a fun way to support nonprofit organizations. Heroic Inner Kids and Hope Rising as well as their causes. A portion of the proceeds from each book will be donated to BOTH charities. If you’re not into keeping the book, you can donate your signed copy to Heroic Inner Kids as a gift for the children they serve. Perk: you’ll be surrounded by craft beer. Be a hero for a day by nerding out for a good cause.

Kimia (Album Release), Friday’s Foolery, The Night Above Us

Harvest House, 9 p.m.

Tap into the diverse music scene that dominates Denton by exploring an eclectic showcase at Harvest House. Kimia, a songwriter/violinist/psychologist, explores life themes through original music. Kimia will take you on her musical journey through pop, jazz, and middle eastern melodies. Friday's Foolery joins the bill, delivering their motto of Creativity through Diversity to the stage through song. The Night Above Us opens. Music starts around 9 p.m. FREE!

Saturday, August 12

Youth Group Volunteer Training

OUTreach Denton, 9 a.m.

Are you interested in volunteering with the LGBTQ+ Youth Group? If so, join their annual course where you’ll learn about LGBTQ+ specific issues, terminology, and skills to help with working with adolescents. You must be at least 24 years old. A state ID is required for a background check. Bonus: juice and donuts will be provided. Training kicks off at 9 a.m. See event page for address.

BBQ, Beats & Brews 2

The Bearded Monk, 3 p.m.

Join The Bearded Monk for their second-annual BBQ, Beats & Brews event. This heart (and heartfelt!) event will feature plenty of food, drinks, and music to suit your fancy. Local BBQ masters will be competing to see who has the best barbecue around! Best part: for just $10 you can be a judge! Competition starts at 4 p.m. Yum! All proceeds benefit Serve Denton, a charitable organization that helps nonprofit agencies create opportunities for those in need. Live music starts around 5 p.m., with performances by Body English, Brave Little Howl, Lofty Beats, Mr. Grudge, and more. Plus, PINT Printing Services will be live-printing shirts and limited-edition packages. If you’re somehow hungry after all that barbecue, Almost Famous Pizza will be serving extra grub. Don’t forget to wash it all down with a brew or two. It’s FREE, y’all!

Weaving and Wine

SCRAP Denton, 6:30 p.m.

Spend your Saturday sipping and spinning at SCRAP Denton’s event Weaving and Wine. In this workshop, students will leave the class with an understanding of how to warp the loom and how to weave upcycled materials into the loom. Students will also start on their very own woven wall-hanging, leaving the class with a frame to use as a loom. All materials will be provided by SCRAP Denton and are included in the registration cost for the class. Tickets are $25 and are available via www.scrapdenton.org. It’s B.Y.O.B., y’all. 21+.

Hagen’s Birthday Celebration

BackYard On Bell, 8 p.m.

Hey, it’s Hagen’s birthday! Do you know Hagen? Do you like parties? Music? If you’re down for partying with (or alongside) Hagen while enjoying live local music, then do so on Saturday at BackYard On Bell. Helping celebrate this once-a-year event will be The BoomBachs, Kites and Boomerangs, Samus David Jr., and Megan Storie & The Tellers. Party starts around 8 p.m.

DIY Flower Arrangement Workshop

Juice Lab, 1 p.m.

Find your footing in the floral arrangement world by joining Pink Glitter Events at Juice Lab for a DIY Flower Arrangement Workshop. The ladies from the Fiore X 7 Flower Bar will teach students how to properly and creatively arrange a bouquet. All supplies are included in the cost of the class. Workshop fee is $45. Sundown Cinema Series presents ‘Napoleon Dynamite’

Andy’s Bar, 7 p.m.

The weekend is wrapping up, so do whatever you wanna do. GOSH! But make sure that includes catching this week’s Sundown Cinema Series at Andy’s Bar. This week, making all your wildest dreams come true, they’ll be screening the oh-so-quotable Napoleon Dynamite. Show up a little before (6:30ish) sporting your moon boots, fanny packs, and/or bolo ties. They’ll snap a photo of you before the movie starts for a chance to win prizes. No skills required. (Well, maybe nunchuck skills…) This sounds like a pretty neat Sunday evening, right? Heck yes it does!
