2nd Anniversary Funk at the Monk: Electric Boogaloo - Preview
The Bearded Monk is hosting its second annual Funk at the Monk, this one subtitled Electric Boogaloo, in partnership with Nice Dudes Servicing Craft and Otter Illustration, with musical performances by SoulPatrol, MOJO, and The Boombachs.
The second hosting of the event will also feature a Sour Symposium, featuring Jeff Stuffings, co-founder of Jester King Brewery; Ryan Deyo, co-founder of The Collective Brewing Project; Nathan Rice, lead brewer of New Braunfels Brewing Company; Jeff Young, co-founder of Blue Owl Brewing; and Daniel Ohlly at Jolly Pumpkin. Tickets are $15 if purchased during presale and $20 at the door, and once the tickets are gone, they are gone.
“I am excited that we finally got to bring all our buddies together for this. These are friends of ours, and we never get to see each other all at once, and for them to come to little ol' Denton, our little ol' shop, and to put Denton on the map — this group has never been together anywhere, and the fact they are coming to Denton is fucking amazing,” said Ben Esely, owner of The Bearded Monk.
There are a lot of rare sours never before seen outside the brewery that are making their way up to Denton, and picking a favorite proved a challenge for Esely. ”That is real tough. I couldn’t pick one. There are reasons we chose the ones we chose. Super excited Blue Owl is launching their cans with us, every time I’m in Austin I have to pick up a six-pack, and this is the first time they have ever left Austin with their cans and they are coming straight here.”
You can also try out sours like Collective’s Peach Folk, Jester King Colour 5, and Apocolocynposis by Jolly Pumpkin, with the Jolly Pumpkin bringing two beers that have never left the brewery.
All proceeds from the funky and wild raffle plus ticket sales from the Sour Symposium will be donated to Habitat for Humanity, and the music kicks off at 9:30 p.m. this Saturday evening. Check out the full list of what’s being tapped on the Facebook event.
