The Cupboard Set to Close After More Than 50 Years in Denton

After more than 50 years of business in Denton, The Cupboard Natural Foods & Cafe, one of Denton's first natural food stores, is set to close, co-owner Paul Tanis confirmed to The Dentonite this morning.

Tanis said that there will be a public press release available by the middle of next week. He could not confirm any details about the closing other than the fact that the store will be closing.

The Cupboard was established in the community of Denton in 1960's as a locally owned health food store. Bill & Ida Acker purchased the store in 1972. In 1977, the Denton Record-Chronicle reported that The Cupboard was listed in the nationally published Rodale Cookbooks. "Probably the key magazine in the world of natural nutrition," Acker told the Record-Chronicle.

In 2016, Lauren Well and eight other talented artists painted the current Peaches mural on the side of The Cupboard's building.

This story is still developing and we will update it as new information becomes available.
