La Indita Reopens After 5 Years

Five years ago on New Year’s Eve, an elderly woman ran her car through the storefront of what has recently reopened as La Indita Meat Market. The inside of the building was destroyed, and the owner, Jonathan Gonzalez, and his family have finally finished the rebuild. The store front offers a wide selection of options, from a fresh produce, to authentic Mexican cuisine, and German-style Fischer’s Meats.

“We got the idea from what is happening in Sanger,” explains Gonzalez, with corner stores offering a smoked meat, gourmet cheese options, and home made jerky while still staying true to their Hispanic routes and maintaining a selection of Rosa’s spices, meats, and cheeses. One side of the case is home to Fischer’s Meats with options that include Jalapeno and Cheese filled Hot Links, Smoked and Cured Bratwurst, Unsmoked and Smoked German Sausage, Smoked Cheddar Cheese, and Muenster Cheese. The other side of the case carries Bistek Adobado Pork Steak, Pechuga Marinated Chicken Breast, Tablita Marinada, and Queso Oaxaca.

They also offer a taco plate daily lunch special with 3 tacos with rice and beans with a soda for $5.99, with the option of Beef, Pork, or Chicken, so you don’t have to limit your taco intake to Tuesday. You can also pick up a Torta filled with Beef, Pork, Chicken, Spicy Pork or Mexican Sausage.

This tiny corner store is certainly Denton’s next hidden gem, La Indita located at 404 W. Sherman Drive and currently open from 8AM to 10PM.
