Tex-Mex is back in Downtown Denton. Sweetwater Bar & Grill, located a block off of the square, closed their doors this past Monday and reopened as Agua Dulce. 

"We felt that our menu was a blend of a lot of places downtown," owner Ryann Reid tells The Dentonite, "and there was a hole, especially for Mexcian food. That is something in my wheelhouse that I personally like to cook." 

In 2014 Sweetwater changed ownership and shut down for 3 months during the transition. Although the name didn't change, the interior and menu tweaked a little. This week the restaurant shut down for 4 days and emerged as a Tex-Mex hotspot. 

Downtown Denton has missed Mexican fare for some time. El Guapos, which was located a couple blocks off of the square, closed earlier this Summer after serving Denton for 12 years. In 2014 Cafe Herrara had a brief run at Tex-Mex downtown in the now Barley & Board location, but closed fairly quickly after being open for just 6 months. (Y'all remember when Subway was next to Cafe Herrara... on the square? Ew.)

Reid's friends and customers had been pushing her to open a Mexican food restaurant for a while. "A lot of our staff, family, and friends pulled together to make this happen," Reid says. 

Agua Dulce is waiting until the end of the year before booking any more music performances, but plans on keeping their weekly acoustic nights picking back up in December. Reid says there are already artists scheduled in December. 

Agua Dulce is located at 115 S. Elm Street in Denton, Texas.
