The BoomBachs Rock a New Bock
Denton's getting a new brew, and this one is extra jazzy. The Lil’ D series from Audacity Brew House has showcased some of the most special parts of Denton. From a Mesquite Smoked Chili Ale in collaboration with Bet the House to a Pecan Porter in partnership with Oaktopia, followed by a Chocolate Wheat beer dedicated to local nonprofit Denton County Friends of the Family, the next in line for the Lil’ D Series is #4: the Boom Bock.
With some guidance from Denton’s favorite Ben combo at The Bearded Monk, Denton band the BoomBachs began working with Audacity to collaborate on a new brew. “I remembered seeing the BoomBachs for the first time when they played here for a Sofar event," says Doug Smith, Audacity's brewmaster. "I think it was about a year ago and I knew we needed to hire them right away, and now they play here regularly."
The BoomBachs have been playing a monthly residency at The Bearded Monk, called the Bearded Bachs sessions, and are a local favorite. The energy they create through their own genre (which they’ve dubbed “Space Gospel”) is contagious and addictive--the kind of music that when seen live makes you wish the night would never end. “They’re probably my favorite Denton band,” says Smith. ”The [BoomBachs] are local Denton people making some great stuff, and that’s what our Lil’ D series is all about, collaborating with people who make Denton great. We’ve been able to work with restaurants and nonprofits in the past and getting to work with great musicians is a dream come true.”
There is only one option when creating a beer for the ‘Bachs: the ultimate bock. Prepared and ready to get down to business, they showed up to Audacity with 9-10 bocks to taste. Doug guided them through each one, trying to nail down what they liked or didn’t like so the beer was truly to their taste. The final decision came down to a German-style bock that’s still on the light side, or sessionable. True to the bock flavor profile, the Boom Bock plays between a caramel sweetness and malty, bready tones.
The BoomBachs are adding an innovative element to the beer’s release, too. In an effort to celebrate five years contributing to Denton music the band has decided to record a live album in conjunction with the release of the Boom Bock. The first show and Boom Bock release will be held at Audacity from 8 PM to 10 PM on November 16th, followed by another show at LSA on November 19th from 7 PM to 10 PM. During these shows, the band will record their live sets. The band will play one final show at The Bearded Monk on November 20th from 4 PM to 6 PM. We can’t wait to be swept away by the BoomBachs’ jazzy psychedelic sounds while toasting a pint of the newest addition to the Lil’ D series, the Boom Bock.
