Maybe I'm just feeling nostalgic lately, but the sounds of Never Friends remind me of the summer nights of my teens, playing quarters with a bottle of whiskey and not having a care in the world. The singer's ability to move from raw screaming into a soft serenade, combined with the honesty of the lyrics, take the listener to a vulnerable, inward-looking place.
It's an intentional move on the band's part; Never Friends says their contributions on For Better or For Worse "are about us coming to terms with emotional situations we've gone through in the past few months and trying to take some of the fault."
