Fry St. Music Scene's Newest Addition

On Tuesday nights, singer-songwriters have been gracing the wooden stage at Tom’s Daiquiri, serenading the crowds who hold cold draft beers and frosty frozen beverages in hand. Brett Fields, part-owner of the daiquiri shop, is ready to take it up a notch in the new year, and says they will be hosting full bands and solo acts alike on Thursday evenings. Pursuing a wide-range of music that will cater to a broad range of tastes, you can look forward to hearing alternative rock, bluegrass, jazz, and the blues.

“We’re beginning with Thursday evenings, but are eager to branch out to Friday and Saturdays,” says Fields. “We always wanted to do music; we came from a music background with the bar in Lubbock. We brought our focus to local Denton music, and we’re not a venue where a huge band is going to come in, but we offer an intimate experience.”

Bartender and local music enthusiast Drew Kee is stepping up to do the booking, and is eager to bring local sounds to their stage. “I’m super excited for this opportunity to start expanding the local music scene on Fry St, and excited to create exposure for up and coming bands,” says Kee. Tom’s Daiquiri was an idea born in Lubbock, and had been around for 15 years before the original owners decided to sell their ownership. Fields had bartended and managed for The Blue Light, a bar connected to Tom’s, while attending college. After spending several years in a Finance position, he seized the opportunity when the owners called him to see if he was interested in investing. When the vacant space that once housed HMS Art & Frame became available, they knew it was the perfect location. Officially opening in August of 2015, Tom’s celebrated one year of serving adult frozen beverages to the patrons of Fry earlier this year.

Plans for the future include moving music outside when the weather warms up and expanding the patio. Until then, you can enjoy free pool on Sundays, drink specials every day of the week, and now you can also look forward to hearing the sounds of some of your Denton favorites while enjoying a frozen White Russian, Cruzan Hurricane, or Mean Green Margarita.
