PHOTOSET: Women's March on Washington
Hundreds of thousands of people came in from all over the world to gather in Washington D.C. on Saturday, January 21, 2017, to participate in the Women's March on Washington event. According to the Women's March website, their mission states:
"We stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families - recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country."
The Washington Post reports that "subway ridership for the day and evening totaled “1,001,613 entries” — the second biggest daily volume in Metro’s 40-year history." Although that does not mean 1,001,613 people rode the subway that day, it does compare to the compare to the 570,557 ridership on the rail system on Friday, during President Trump's inauguration. The Post also reported that the ridership on Friday was "lower than that of a typical weekday and lower than it was during Obama’s second inaugural, in 2013, when the Metro recorded 782,000 subway trips."
