PHOTOSET: Women's Rally on Denton Square
On Saturday, January 21, 2017, an estimated 2,000 people showed up in Downtown Denton to participate in the Women's Rally on the Denton Square. The Dentonite's Culture Editor, Katie Olson, spoke to event organizer Barbara Rodman last week. In the interview, with The Dentonite Rodman says that through their event they “are emphasizing that citizens of Denton are unified in our belief that grassroots activities and the democratic process are vital to our healing and growth, but that we don't need to agree on every issue in order to act. We want to be able to express our anger, disappointment, and fears as well as our hopes, passion, and commitment."
The event is a sister march to the Women's March on Washington that also happened on Saturday, January 21. Photographer Hannah Ridings was there on behalf of the Dentonite, and you can find her photos from Washington D.C. here and coverage of the entire day (including Dallas protests the night before) through our Post Inauguration Coverage. You can also find our coverage from the Women's March & Rally in Dallas here.
