The days are finally starting to get longer and warmer. You know what that means: More patio beer time! That also means you should stop by Flower Garden and pick up some beautiful in-season blooms. They have all sorts of exotic flowers (the hyacinths smell amazing!), and right now they’re getting all kinds of succulents. Did you know they also have half-price stems on Saturdays? Denton has created quite a notable trivia night scene and the questionnaires at our favorite cantina never disappoint. Bring a team to test out your music knowledge for a chance to win a $10, $20, or $40 tab.

Sadistik, Upgrade, & Early Adopted
Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios, 9 pm
Right Round Productions is bringing some sweet underground hip hop to Denton tonight. In addition to Sadistik, coming all the way from Seatle, Upgrade (not to be confused with Upgrayedd) will be there as well as Boston-based Early Adopted. Local support includes Wild Bill, Muenster, Grades of Absolute Truth, & 5pew.

The Rotation: FUNDAMENTAL. + Jeremy Langhorn
Andy’s Bar, 8:30 pm
Every Thursday night, Andy’s hosts The Rotation, a jazzy, funky, fusion-y set—we are known for our jazz, y’all. If you didn’t catch FUNDAMENTAL. at the 35 Denton Festival this year, this is your chance to see them for free.

Friday Fun Day!

For only $5, you get to practice yoga every Friday at 5:30 with a new teacher at AYL. It’s a good way to kick off your weekend—just be sure to drink a bunch of water.

April Fool’s First Friday Celebration
A Creative Art Studio, 6:30 pm
In lieu of this spring holiday, Artists Enclave of Denton County and A Creative Art Studio are hosting this free event full of mayhem and madness. You’ll see visual art by Shay “Pono” McAllay, music by County Rexford, plus a variety show of other acts from around town.

Birthday Bash + Bazaar
The DIME Store, 6 pm
It’s been three years since this local handicrafts shop opened—how time flies! For First Friday, you can come out and browse the shop and participate in a craft that you can take as a souvenir. They’ll also be celebrating on Saturday until 6pm, in case you miss it on Friday. Did we mention there’ll be sangria?

Arts All Night
Greater Denton Arts Council, 6 pm – 6 am
Have a slumber party with your fellow Dentonites! It’s going to be a packed night with tons of music, arts, visual demonstrations, and movies. Food trucks will be out serving food, adult and child-friendly beverages will be available, and Jupiter House will be serving complimentary coffee all night. Be sure to get your tickets in advance.

Relick, Pony Kicks, PurlSnapShirts
J&J’s Pizza, 8 pm
See some of Texas’ finest musical talent in the J&J’s basement, while you can get some of the best pizza in town. Local bands Relick and PurlSnapShirts are sharing the stage with Austin’s Pony Kicks.

It’s getting warmer, great for long bike rides. Browse the shop, get your bike tuned, and pick up some awesome riding gear at Denton Bicycle Center, on Elm St. Bet the House BBQ will be serving lunch.

Market Opening Day
Denton Community Market, 9 am – 1 pm
It’s the first community market of the season! There’ll be over 100 vendors out, plus tons of food and activities. Bring the kids and dogs and hang out with your fellow Dentonites.

Shift Cupping
Shift Coffee, 2 pm
Want to know more about the brew you’re drinking? The folks at Shift Coffee will guide you through a semi-traditional cupping (it’s like wine tasting, but with coffee), featuring all sorts of coffee samples you’ve probably never heard of before.

Poetry Night at Dorothy’s
Dorothy’s Kitchen Table, 5 pm
If you haven’t been to Dorothy’s Kitchen Table yet, you must. They serve delicious food from local sources for donations and they are amazing. Saturday evening they’re hosting a poetry night for those who’d like to join the open-mic and will be serving food throughout the night until 9.

Hare’s on the Mac

You know those Hares on the Mountain Happy Hour shows you’ve been hearing about? Well, Denton’s favorite rowdy folk band is gonna be covering your favorite hits by Fleetwood Mac. Get there early and catch Isaac Hoskins, Petra Kelly, and Brian Lane open.

Peelander-Z, Radioactivity, Mind Spiders
Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studio, 9 pm Peelander-Z is one of those memorable shows that you really cannot miss. They’ve been around for almost two decades, spreading their energetic ways across the globe. They consider themselves Japanese Action Comic Punk, which, honestly, hits the nail on the head. Get your tickets at Transmission Dallas.

Rock the Basement
J&J’s Pizza, 7 pm
This is the second installment of the Rock the Basement series hosted by Denton band Animal Bar. This Saturday’s show includes music from Animal Bar, The White Rhinos, and I, The Ghost.

Racial Reconciliation Showcase
The Bearded Monk, 7 pm – 8:30 pm
This group is a storytelling performance troop exploring racial identity and its effects on creative expression. They’ll be taking donations so they can share their art further.
