Weekend Update: April 14 - 17

For us, it really isn’t spring until Record Store Day Weekend. I mean, we’re a town rich with musical history, so there’s no surprise that it gets pretty crazy round these parts. AND THAT’S NOT ALL! There’s all the music/crafts/movies/boozing/fun that your crazy little hearts can desire. Just check it all out below!

Thursday, April 14

Jessie Frye/Noble Rey Collab: Boss Bitch Denton Launch Party
LSA Burger Co., 7 pm
Did you know Jessie Frye is going to have her own beer? Noble Rey Brewing is partnering with the Dallas singer in their new pecan porter, releasing tonight at LSA!

City Council Candidate Forum
City of Denton City Hall, 7 pm
What better way to get informed locally than to meet the candidates you’ll be voting for? It’s a great opportunity to hear where they stand on keeping Denton as awesome as it is, and if you get there early you can submit questions for the moderator.

Friday, April 15

Record Store Day Weekend Sale
Recycled Books, 9 am
You guys, Record Store Day is pretty much a registered holiday in Little D. Recycled Books is celebrating all weekend with 20% off your purchase, a great time to stock up your bookshelves and your music library.

The Groovebumps, Royal Rabbit, Moniker, and Aurora Wynne
Andy’s Bar, 8 pm
Come out to the Andy’s stage for this awesome line up. Bands from all over are gonna groove your face off, including sweet jams from The Groovebumps and indie rock tunes from Pennsylvania’s Royal Rabbit. This is a rare line up you won’t want to miss.

Criminal Birds, Quiet Company, and Oil Boom
Dan’s Silverleaf, 9 pm
Why should you go to this show? Let’s see, you have Oil Boom, a rock outfit traveling from Austin, opening. Then there’s Quiet Company, also from Austin, who’s in the middle of a crazy tour all over Texas. And, of course, headlining is Denton’s own Criminal Birds. If you haven’t heard them, shame on you—here’s your chance for redemption. $10 cover.

Saturday, April 16

Growler Painting Party
The Bearded Monk, 3 pm
Show your artistic side with a little craft contest thrown by Karma Denton, DSC Designs, and The Bearded Monk. Bring your $12, get your growler, and a set of paint supplies and decorate the s*!t out of it—if you win there are some sweet prizes to collect. 25% of the proceeds will go to Denton County Friends of the Family.

Denton Classical Academy’s Color Run Fundraiser
North Lakes Park, 8 am
Come out and support the Denton Classical Academy during their color run fundraiser.  Get doused in color throughout the trail and finish off looking like a unicorn! 100% of the proceeds go to supporting the academy.

Record Store Day Silent Vinyl Auction and Print Sale
Dan’s Silverleaf, 12 pm
Our dear friend Nevada Hill passed away earlier this year. Come out for the silent auction, prizes ranging from collectibles to art, and support The Nevada Hill Family Trust. 5 bucks gets you in for the auction and performances by Sarah Ruth Alexander and Baptist Generals.

It’s time to rock hard with this trio line up. Austin’s Sleezus Fist and the Latter Day Taints—they’ve been playing shows in Denton for quite a while—headlines this show.

Y’all Mother’s Day is just around the corner! What better time to get her that perfect token of appreciation than at this month’s Backyard Market. There will be a full assortment of items from all sorts of vendors, all handcrafted, local goods.

Chase Whale and Dan’s Silverleaf Present: Brewster McCloud

Chase’s last film night was a gigantic success, so he’s hosting another with “Brewster McCloud starring Harold and Maude’s Bud Cort. PLUS, there will be a ton of DVDs Chase will be giving away, so don’t miss it!

An Evening with David Liebe Hart + Fishboy

What a treat for Denton, y’all. David Liebe Hart, of Adult Swim’s Tim & Eric, is hosting this amazing night of puppets, music, and videos. And obvs, Fishboy is playing, so there are way too many reasons for you to leave your couch this Monday night. Get your tickets in advance for $10.
