Weekend Update June 21 - June 24

Well, the cool weather was certainly a nice change of pace, but it looks like we are back up to the hotter temps this weekend. There are plenty of ways to stay cool though and still enjoy this beautiful town. Check out a handful of some of the events happening over the next four days in our weekend update!

Thursday, June 21st

The Wizzywigs • West Oxking & the One Night Crusade • Cashless Generation

J&J’s Pizza on the Square

You can’t beat dinner and a show to get yourself into the weekend. Grab a slice and a Schlitz from J&J’s and then head down to the basement for 3 hours of mixed genre goodness. Music starts at 8pm and goes til 11pm, the cover is $5 cash, and, as always, the show is all ages.

 

Friday, June 22nd

Block Printed Planters with Home Again, Home Again

Feeling a little crafty this weekend? Learn how to make, carve, and print simple stamp blocks to help you add some more flair to the fabrics in your home. This class is taught by Shelley Christner of Home Again, Home Again and is limited to a class size of 12 so reserve your spot now! Check out all the details in the event listing; you’ll be ready to make your home Instagram-worthy after this workshop.

 

Bun B with AV the Great & Smitty

There just might be tickets available to this stacked line up of talent that includes DJ JU$TRILL, Masa Lopez, and will be hosted by the fabulous Callie Dee. Bun B is a rap/hiphop artist on the II Trill Enterprises Record label whose being doing his thing since 2005 and will be joined by Denton favorite AV the Great with Gas House Smitty.  This is a 21+ show, and tickets are $25 for a show you won’t want to miss!
 

 

Underground Bass Vol. 2 (DTX DNB one year anniversary party!)

DTX DNB is celebrating their 1 year anniversary with resident DJs, Ricky B and Champagne Shotgun, in addition to a special performance by Aaron Hensley and Wickid. This is a free show but will be 21+. This second monthly installation of Underground Bass starts at 10pm and goes until close.

 

Saturday, June 23rd

Beer Fights: Round 2 Even Fluffier

ICYM Round 1, In one hand a contender will have a pillow and in the other a cup of beer. The objective is to knock all the beer out of your opponent's cup while protecting your own. Round 2 brings a new group of celebrity contenders who you can also challenge after their matches. Keep your beer in the cup and empty your opponent's to secure victory!

 

DCBC Beer Fite Pop Up Art Show

While the pillows are flying and beer is, well, going pretty much everywhere next door, you can check out the talents from a slew of local artists while you dry off and fuel pack up for round 2, 3, or 10 with some delicious pizza. Artists include the talented Katie Montgomery, Eric Mancini, and Beth Yturri.
 

The Thrills of Culture - Art Show

This venue does a great job of curating interesting events that showcase the best of the lil’ d while encouraging people to support those artists and musicians who show their talents. The event itself is free so make sure to bring some cash to support the local movers and shakers, and get their early if you want to grab some free spaghetti!

 

The Brave Boys 1 Year Anniversary Roast

What better way to celebrate an anniversary than having yourself roasted by your dearest friends? The Brave Boys are setting themselves up as the recipients of jokes from some amazing comedians alongside Roast Master De De T. Cover is $5, but we think we agree with them that this is going to be worth every penny.
 

Sunday, June 24th

Catch a line up of locals this Sunday night in the Backyard to end your weekend on a heavier note. You can grab some dinner from one of the food trucks or grab a pizza from their kitchen and enjoy a $2 mimosas while you also enjoy the free tunes. This show has no cover, is all ages, and begins at 9pm.
