Music We Love: Elijah Heaps debut album 'The Efflorescence'
Elijah Heaps has been playing music as long as he can remember. Heaps has taken his experimental nature and strung it through eleven songs that make up his newest project, and his debut album, The Efflorescence. The West Coast raised, now Denton-based musician is influenced by all sorts of music from Led Zeppelin to Slipknot, but lately he says he has been inspired by “more experimental music and artists who aren’t afraid to push the boundaries of the genres they seem to feel trapped in.”
“I didn’t really grow up listening to old school 90’s Hip-Hop,” Heaps says, “so I tend to sway towards the experimental/new-age sound that rap has adopted. It isn’t for everybody, but to each his own. I also spend a lot of time listening to the Jimi Hendrix Experience. My mom was big on 70’s rock and that rubbed off on me at an early age.”
Heaps hopes to have a collaborative EP with Nikolai Rya before the end of the year. He has a solo acoustic/rock side project and is also looking into starting a band project this year. His next full-length release will be a studio album that will likely come out next Summer.
