J&J's to Close Basement For Good
Updated on 8/10/16 at 10:39 a.m.
Scratch the renovation talk, J&J's Pizza just announced on Facebook that they will no longer be open after the last shows next weekend. The venue owners have lost access to the basement due to decisions made by the building owner's management. The last show will take place on Sunday, August 14th, 2016 (they decided to keep it open an additional day! Praise the pizza gods!)
Earlier this Summer the establishment announced they would be closing for renovations through the end of the year, with hopes of bringing a downstairs bathroom and a little more space inside the renowned basement venue.
J&J's Basement, the sweaty but charming armpit of a venue, only holds 49 people and was home to the first annual Denton Comedy Fest last weekend and has hosted shows since the early '90s.
In addition to losing Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios earlier this year, this news hits especially hard to the underground music scene that lives within Denton.
You can still make your way downstairs now through this Sunday. As they say, grab a slice & a Schlitz. Denton is changing.
There will still be pizza. Upstairs is remaining as is, just the basement is going away. ;(
The Dirty Ol' Basement has announced their final weeks worth of shows, including adding a Sunday all day show to keep the spirit alive one more night!
