Milpa Celebrates Remodel with Extended Hours
Milpa Mexican Restaurant has been a Denton staple since 2008. They have a drink menu with over 100 margarita options, excellent weekly specials, and ought to be your next weekend hotspot. They just extended their hours til midnight on Thursday through Saturday and those delicious margaritas we mentioned? Oh yes, they are half off after 10 PM with the purchase of an entree through January. Not only are they a small business you should support, they are constantly dishing out love to other local businesses on their social media. Family owned and Denton born, Milpa is celebrating their remodel with extended hours, a Food Truck just weeks from hitting the streets of Denton, and some new authentic and vegan options on their menu.
The remodel began in August of this year, after negotiating the extension to their lease. The expansion brought them an additional 800 square feet, that extends behind the fireplace in the cantina room. The main dining area is currently under renovations, but now that they have fulfilled all their reservation requirements for the year, they are giving the space a once-over so that the vibe matches the festive ambiance and warm atmosphere of the newly modified cantina and bar area.
“People now finally know about us, word of mouth is getting out, and catering has been doing great. We were up for an extension on our lease and negotiated terms to stay in the building that included there would be some improvements,” says Jorge Landeros, owner of Milpa. Landeros' love for the restaurant and his family is quickly visible and obvious in the care the goes into each hand-crafted margarita and plate of food. “This look is what we have been wanting to do since we started and now we’re finally where we had always hoped to be.”
Along with the remodel comes some light rebranding. Don’t fret - the margarita menu will stay true to its roots, and the food menu will still feature breakfast, lunch, and dinner options but is bringing in the additions of more authentic options and even a vegan portion to its offerings, as well. New menu items include Guiso Mexicano, Molcajete, and full fried Red Snapper.
You can expect to see the new menu roll out the first week of January, and a few short weeks later comes their new food truck. “We’re waiting on the inspection, the city, and to finish the wrap," explains Landeros. "The truck is serving as an extension of our brand and will serve items from the menu that are more grab and go options like tortas, nachos, tacos, and quesadillas.” The Milpa Food Truck is anticipated to be rolling down the streets of the square just a few short weeks into the new year and renovations are set to be completed in February.
